Evan G

(HE/HIM/HIS)

Q: Who are you? Where are you from?

A: My name is Evan and I’m from NYC. I’ve lived on the Upper West Side for my entire life!

Q: What’s your background? What did you do before Modulate?

A: I started in traditional advertising sales at Conde Nast. Joined my first startup in 2010 and was instantly hooked by the passion, drive and excitement of startups. Before Modulate I worked for Magma, a browser-based collaboration platform for game devs and artists.

Q: Why are you joining Modulate?

A: Three reasons: 1) I love video games; 2) I want to be in the “AI/ML” space; 3) I specifically wanted to join a company solving a big problem in society. A problem I could identify with.

Q: What’s your ideal work environment? Any special strategies you use to stay effective?

A: I am a very structured person so ideally every day kinda looks like the one before (obviously accounting for travel and client meetings). I take a long walk at 6am, come home for coffee and industry reading time and then either head up to my building’s office space or one of four or five local working spots I like to use. I like to change my location once a day to mix things up. I try to also workout in the middle of the day at least three times a week.

Q: Tell us about something you must have in any culture you join?

A: No one looks down on you for asking what may seem like a simple question. I never want to feel bad about asking a question.

Q: Who are you outside of work?

A: Evan Gotlib

Q: What’s something you’re great at that few people realize?

A: I’m 50 and I will destroy you in Destiny 2 PVP. Come at me.

Q: Leave us with a fun tidbit - a favorite joke, a story from your past, an obscure riddle, whatever you like!

A: A startup I was at in 2011 had a chance to buy Twitch for $25MM (they sold to Amazon in 2014 for $970MM - oops). We asked the board for approval and they did not understand what Twitch was or why it would be a good investment. Moral - you need as many perspectives as possible at the table to win in business.
